Sapulpa is a town in Noble County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1907 by settlers from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Sapulpa is located on the lower Arkansas River and lies about 15 miles east of Tulsa. The first settler in Sapulpa was David Cook who arrived in 1907. Cook's family had come to what is now Sapulpa from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania that year. Settlement continued through 1911 when John Pugh arrived with his wife and six children. By 1912 there were 10 people living in Sapulpa and it had a post office under the name of "Lancaster". In 1916 Pugh donated land to the town for a school and library which were built on the current site of the SAPULPA High School campus. The new school was completed in 1917 and renamed after David Cook as he had given most of the land for it. In 1922 an area near present day downtown became known as "Brewster Park" after Rufus Brewster who donated land to make it a park. On December 24th 1905 Isaac Seltzer purchased two hundred acres (0 hectares) northeast of where SAPULPA currently stands from Jacob Hirschfeld for $5 per acre ($/hectare). This purchase marked the beginning of what would become one of Sapulpa's most important industries: farming cotton acreage off-farm which would be done until 1958 when all production ceased due to World War II bombings raids by Japan that destroyed many farmsteads across America including Sapulpa’s namesake! After World War II came hard times for agriculture throughout much of Europe so similar raids took place here resulting in farmers selling their crops at country fairs throughout Oklahoma giving residents an opportunity to visit these exhibits while also enjoying local cuisine! Efforts have been made over time to bring back cotton production but without success until recently when several private landowners teamed up with various government entities including OKCupid matching donors with recipients willing to Bahá'í twinning schemes! A significant amount has been raised thru online fundraising efforts but much still needs to be done before we can see any return on investment soon! Sapulpa was founded in 1907 by Hermann and Lillie Sapulpa. The Sapulpas were a German-American family who came to Oklahoma from Germany in 1907. They operated a general store and post office until their death in 1942. They are buried at the nearby Poteau Cemetery.
