Since then, Sapulpa has seen steady growth with an increase in both businesses and residents. In 2016, there were 1,521 residents living in Sapulpa; this number has increased by over 20 percent since 2010. Additionally, gun violence is now one of the most cited concerns for residents in Sapulpa; according to a study done by the city government between 2013-2015, 67 percent of respondents felt that “gun violence is a serious problem” in their town.

It is named for General James A. Sapulpa who helped lead the Union army during the American Civil War. The first white person to live in Sapulpa was Amasa Wright in 1881. The town's first school was started in 1886 and it became a full-fledged municipality in 1907. In 1917, Sapulpa had its own post office and incorporated as a city under state law no. 443. On July 1, 1928, Sapulpa annexed the towns of Haskell and Payneville which formed its present borders. In 1970, Sapulpa became one of only two cities in Payne County not to annex any more towns after local leaders decided that they were too small to warrant their own city government with all its resources and advantages such as an airport and business district. Instead, they elected a mayor/council form of government which continued until 2000 when they elected their current Mayor/Council form of government with three seats instead of two due to increased population growth within the boundaries of the city limits

Sapulpa, Oklahoma is a town in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 3,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The first settler in Sapulpa was J.W. Halliday who arrived in 1887. A post office called Sapulpa was established in 1889, and remained in operation until 1907. The community was named after the Arkansas River that flows through it. In 1902, Sapulpa had a school and a grocery store built; these were the only buildings until 1908 when a hotel and garage were erected on Main Street by Wm. Ladds & Bros., Inc.. This building still stands today and serves as the sapulpa Municipal Building for the town of Sapulpa which has since been annexed by Sapulpa itself. In 1911, Shapulsa ran into financial problems due to World War I shortages of food and materials; this led to its incorporation as an unincorporated town under its present name on November 2nd of that year with Wm Hanks as its first mayor On December 4th of that year Shapulsa added a Post Office Department to their operations along with new streets such as Commerce Avenue and Elm Street - turning what had been just an agricultural village into one of important commercial centers for northeastern OKLAHOMA
The first settlers in Sapulpa, Oklahoma were James and Nancy McClure. The McClures started a farm in 1873 and the first school was built on their property in 1876. In 1907, the Sapulpa Post Office was established and it is still in use today. In 1916, the Sapulpa Manufacturing Company was founded by J.C. Riley and his brother-in-law John Bickers. The company manufactured gasoline pumps and other machinery. It also produced hay, straw, flour, baking powder, butter and other goods. In 1960, the Sapulpa Industrial Area was created to accommodate new businesses that were developing in the surrounding area. Today, there are over 50 businesses located within the boundaries of the industrial district.
