He also built a powerower to help him with his work. In 1922, another man named Harry Kapp bought the mill and it continued operation until 1954 when it was destroyed by a fire. The mills that were located in Sapulpa are some of the earliest evidence of machine cutting in Sapulpa. They were also one of the first businesses in town to use electricity for purposes such as lights and power tools.

Sapulpa (Oklahoma) is a small town located in eastern Oklahoma. The population was 1,453 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east bank of the Arkansas River and is about 20 miles east of McAlester. The name "Sapulpa" means "land of many trees." The first settler in Sapulpa was James McGill, who arrived in 1868. James McGill's brother, John McGill, also settled in Sapulpa and ran a store. In 1875, there were only 12 residents in Sapulpa when it was platted as a city by Wm. Crain and Jno. Atherton. In 1907, Sapulpa became part of the newly formed Tulsa County and had its own sheriff and fire department for the first time. The post office called itself "Sapulpa City" until 1929 when it changed to "Sapula". When Tulsa County merged with Muskogee County in 1907, Sapula became Muskogee City again; however, this designation ended after that year when Muskogee County consolidated with Oklahoma Territory to form Oklahomasuchie County

Sapulpa, Oklahoma was founded in 1907 by brothers Joe and John Sapulpa. The town grew quickly because of the production of oil and gas on the mesa above it. By 1912, Sapulpa had a population of over 100 people. The city is named after a creek that flows through the town. The first businesses in Sapulpa were general store, post office, garage, livery stable and grocery store. In 1916, the Sapulpa School District was organized and soon had 4 schools: one for boys and three girls. In 1918-1919, the American Legion opened an armory in town to provide weapons for local soldiers during World War I. In 1924, there were six churches in Sapulpa with 3 Methodists (First Congregational), 1 Baptist (First Baptist) and 2 Catholic (St Joseph’s). On October 5th of that year, voters approved a proposition to add another school district which would become known as the Wichita Valley School District #2. The new school district had 8 schools: two for boys and six for girls; one high school; four elementary schools; 2 junior high schools; 1 senior high school; plus 3 annexes: Aritna High School for grades 9-12A(opened 1959), Eagleville Junior HS (opened 1961), Farrell Heights HS (opened 1962). In 1967-1968, construction began on what is now sapULPA Regional Medical Center at 580 North Elm Street in Sapulpa which replaced a small hospital located near Union Cemetery back then called “the old hutch” which served as both hospital and clinic until it closed its doors in 1971 due to budget cuts made by Governor George Romney while he was Mayor of Oklahoma City. That same year also saw the opening of our current sapULPA Regional Library at 214 N Main Street which has been serving our community since 1978 On November 17th 1969 something amazing happened when President Richard Nixon visited Sapulpa while on his campaign tour throughout central Oklahoma! He stopped at our Municipal Building where he met with Mayor Charles Noland who presented him with a proclamation designating November 17th as Richard Nixon Day in Sanford County! This event marked not only Nixon’s visit but also the start of what would be an ongoing relationship between our community and President Nixon throughout his life long career! Today we enjoy many souvenirs from this special time including items from his White House years such as National Archives photo albums & Memorabilia
