Sapulpa, Oklahoma is home to the world's first gun magazine in 1903. The magazine was built by a man named Johnnie Walker and it remains the only continuously operating gun magazine in the United States. Sapulpa also manufactures firearms, ammunition and other firearm accessories. In addition to its manufacturing capabilities, Sapulpa also hosts one of the largest annual firearms shows in the Midwest. The show has been held at the Sapulpa Fairgrounds for over 50 years and features exhibitors from all over North America as well as Europe. This year's event will be held on Saturday, October 14th from 9am to 4pm.

The town was first established in 1907 as a small farming community. By 1912, Sapulpa had developed into a Manufacturing and Ranching center due to its location on the edge of an alluvial plain that supported many crops and livestock. In 1923, Sapulpa was named after General James S. Hogg, who led American forces during World War I and later served as governor of Oklahoma Territory. In 1951, Sapulpa became one of three towns in Tulsa County when the county was reorganized from portions of Muskogee County and Okmaha County. At the time, Sapulpa consisted of just over 100 residents and was known for its phosphate fertilizer production plants which were among the largest in the nation at that time. However, by 1960-1964 there had been declines in both phosphate production and local jobs due to competition from nearby towns such as Jenks and Soonersville which had become more prosperous since their incorporation into Tulsa Metro Area. However, by the late 1990s there had been a resurgence in local businesses thanks to increased industry development along with new investments by friends and family members of those who founded Sapulpa fifty years earlier including Grady Noland Sr., son of original settler Grady Noland; Donnie Hargrave; his wife Pam; sons Donnie Jr.; Craig (now CEO & President - Horizon Natural Resources); Barry (now Mayor - City Councilman - Brownstown Civic Improvement District); Davey Cook (now Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer - Alcoa Aluminum Company PLC)); Mitch Beacham (then Regional Manager Eastern US Mining Industry Group) A variety of events have taken place throughout our history celebration related to our people including: Pioneer Day on October 15th each year held annually at First United Methodist Church fundraiser picnic complete with band playing music while supplies last BBQ's every 4th Saturday leading up to Independence Day paradeMain Street Days celebrate anniversary every 6 months culminated with fireworks show on July 4th built around old post office building
Sapulpa was founded in 1868 by Captain John H. Yarborough and his family. The town was named for the sap that grows on trees in the area. In 1902, Sapulpa became a city. In 1934, it was renamed after General George Custer.
