In 1907, the Sapulpa Rifle Club was formed in Sapulpa. The club met at the old post office and started using rifles to compete in shooting tournaments. In 1912, they organized their first rifle match, which was held at the fairgrounds. From 1913-1916, they competed in state championships and were undefeated until 1915 when they lost to Tulsa. In 1916-1917, they won the national championship, but due to World War I they were not able to compete again. From 1919-1920, they won a second national championship while being runner up in 1921 and 1922. They also won state championships from 1923-1927. They ceased operations after 1927 because of financial difficulties.
Sapulpa, Oklahoma is a small town located in the eastern part of the US state of Oklahoma. The population was 1,846 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Muskogee County, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began to form in 1907 when two men named Sapulpa and Osmond bought land near what is now Sapulpa High School. Sapulpa, Oklahoma is a small town located in far west Oklahoma. It is the location of the Sapulpa Indian Agency which was established in 1907. The agency was created as part of the Treaty of Talks between the United States and the Kiowa, Comanche, and Apache Indians. The treaty ceded land to the tribe in return for their cooperation during World War I. In 1926, a new government was formed at Sapulpa and it became known as the Sapulpa Agency Tribal School District. In 1946, Sapulpa was incorporated into Tulsa County and it has since experienced significant growth. Today, Sapulpa boasts a population of over 1,000 people and it remains one of its most vibrant communities. The history of Sapulpa begins with its earliest settlers. The first European settler to arrive in what is now Sapulpa was John Davenport who arrived in 1881. He purchased land near present-day Zapata Elementary School from Chief Wichitaquala and his family. Davenport named his new settlement after himself - Davenportville - but it quickly gained notoriety as an Indian agent outpost on the border between Canadian Creek County and Canadian Creek Nation territory. Davenport's staff operated outposts for much of the 19th century; however, he relinquished control over his station in 1892 when he sold his holdings to Major General Jens Christensen for $1 million dollars ($140 million current value). By 1905, Christensen had constructed a schoolhouse at Pryortown (later renamed Fort Gibson) on Canadian Creek Nation soil while also erecting other infrastructure such as a road network and storehouse. In 1916, following World War I hostilities that resulted in millions lost life among both Native Americans and Europeans alike, President Woodrow Wilson designated Canada Creek Territory as part of newly defined American Indian Country، thereby ending any territorial dispute between Canadians creek nation residents و Pawnee residents regarding access to water resources within this areaوthus opening up vast tracts of untamed wildernessفto white settlement}.
