In 1892, an entrepreneur named George W. Smith opened the first store in Sapulpa with his brother, Harry Smith. The store specialized in guns and ammunition. It was located on Main Street and continued to trade until 1949. In 1907, Charles Schieffer founded the Sapulpa Gunnery School which became one of the most successfulgun schools of its time. Schieffer taught students how to make firearms and shoot at municipal matches around Sapulpa. He also developed a method for making Hats from felt that has been used by manufacturers ever since. Wilfred Averill started manufacturing hats in Podunkie, Oklahoma in 1924. His company manufactured hats for both military and civilian use. After World War II ended, Averill began importing European-made hats into America through his company – Brescia Sales Corporation – which remains active today as a wholesaler of high-quality Hats across North America!

Chapin, who led US forces during the Mexican–American War and who also donated land to the city for its growth. Sapulpa is located at (36.428421,-95.539464). According to the 2010 census, Sapulpa has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,553 people residing in Sapulpa Urban Area; 735 families resided in unincorporated areas surrounding Sapulpa Municipal Airport which had a population of 456 as of 2000 (these numbers may have increased since then due to new construction or annexation within Sapula-area). As of 2009 there are 2,059 people living within these boundaries and 575 families residing outside urban limits dating back to 1900 when the first post office opened here The climate here is semi-arid with some scattered rain events throughout the year but very few significant snowfalls (>1”) typically occurring during winter months

Sapulpa is a town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Sapulpa was John Hennepin in 1881. He and his family built their house on the present site of Sapulpa High School on land donated by David Denton and others. In 1907, Sapulpa had a post office with Wm. Pugh as its first mailer. The town's name waschanged to Sapulpa in 1921 when it became an incorporated municipality under the laws of Oklahoma Territory. In 1944, during World War II, General George Custer’s 4th Cavalry Regiment stationed at Fort Sill occupied Sapulpa for two months while they trained for combat against Japan. Many people from Sapulpa came to work at Fort Sill as soldiers or civilians and many businesses were established there during that time including Ford Motors Company (1944-1945), Bemis Electric Manufacturing Company (1945-1946), Texaco Incorporated ( 1946-1948) and Alcoa Corporation (1950-1959). After the war ended, most of the military personnel returned home but some stayed in Sapulapa until their retirement years; among these were Colonel Harry Custer who served as Mayor from 1958 to 1960 and Lieutenant Colonel James Ladd who served as Postmaster from 1959 to 1960 and 1969 to 1970. This period of growth for Sapulpas coincided with technological advances such as airplane travel being available within an hour's drive from our town through Roadrunner Aviation which opened up sapula Airport just east of town in 1947 However after that airport closed down there has been no significant progress made either for our economy or development because both Air Force Base Tulsa which sits across I-25 about 8 miles south east of us and Choctawhatchee National Wildlife Refuge sit about 10 miles north west of us making air travel impossible if not prohibitively expensive . Not only has aviation been largely unappreciated by our community but also recent economic downturns have caused many small businesses to close shop due to difficult competition from larger companies which have relocated away or chosen different markets
The city of Sapulpa, Oklahoma was founded in 1907 by a group of men who worked on the Chisholm Trail. The city is named after Dr. John A. Sapulpa, an early settler and president of the University of Oklahoma. The first school in Sapulpa was built in 1909 and the first post office was opened in 1912. In 1918, the city became a town and the first mayor was elected. In 1930, the city became a municipality and the first municipal officer was elected. The current mayor is Donnie Vinson
