Sapulpa, Oklahoma is a small town in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskogee (Oklahoma) Micropolitan Statistical Area. Sapulpa is located on the Arkansas River and has a rich history dating back to 1867 when it was known as "The Hub". In 1867, the town was named after its founder, George W. Sapulpa, who had bought land north of present-day Sapulpa. In 1907, Sapulpa became one of fifty towns in Noble County when that county was created from parts of Haskell and Kiowa counties. The town's name change came about because much of what is now Sapulpa had been surveyed as part of a railroad line running through Noble County and other towns along the Arkansas River were given new names based on their location on that rail line or their commerce with those areas. One important event in early Sapulpa history happened during World War I when sapULPAH – an American military ambulance unit – transported wounded soldiers from Tulsa to France for medical treatment purposes. The unit operated out of Sapulpha until 1918 before being disbanded due to lack of funding. That same year saw another important event as well; construction began on what would become Sapula Dam which would provide irrigation water for much Needmore County south of Oklahoman city limits until it finally went online in 1957 There have been many changes throughout the years at Sapula Dam including major renovation efforts completed in 1984-1986 and 2005-2007 which increased capacity by 50%. Additionally, there have been several storms over time that caused extensive damage to both dam and infrastructure however no fatalities occurred within those incidents As mentioned earlier, most importantly, since 2007 there has also been significant redevelopment taking place at local elementary schools called "A Better Future" having received grant money from both private entities as well as government dollars totaling more than $10 million USD This project includes such things as new roofs and replacement windows as well as brand new playgrounds for all grade levels inside each school building with drop zones for younger childreninthrowing ACE Softball games into bigger ones for older onesand even a movie theater! There are also plans underway to expand outdoor play spaces including bike paths and soccer fields
Sapulpa, Oklahoma was founded on October 3, 1907 by J.C. Hudgins and his family. The town was named after the Sapulpa Creek which flows through the area. The Hudgins family operated a general store and farming business until 1912 when they started a cattle ranch. In 1916 the Hudgins family bought the Rancho Grande cattle ranch from Pecos County rancher John Ladd. In 1922 the Hudgins family sold their ranch to Ira Winton who ran it until it was acquired by Harry Fenton in 1941 and then passed along to his son-in-law, Don Bearden in 1956. The Bearden familyoperatedtheranchuntil1983 when it was sold to Troup County rancher Leroy Blythe who held it until 1991 when he donated it to the Sapulpa Historical Society.
