Sand Springs is a small town in Osage County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,636 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Osage County. The name "Sand Springs" comes from an Apache Chief named Samuel Sand Springs. The first settler in Sand Springs was John Fenton who arrived in 1867. He and his family were the first to build a house on what is now Main Street. In 1872, Laddie Hinton founded a grocery store and post office at what is now First Avenue and Sixth Street in Sand Springs. In 1902, Jethro Osborne started the first telephone service in Osage County when he installed wires between his home and his business on Third Street. In 1907, Harry Price built the first frame schoolhouse east of present day Main Street in Sand Springs. Theodore Kapp started the first restaurant in town on Third Avenue near present day State Highway 6A about 1930-1931. In 1951, it became known as the Price Inn which served breakfast until 1958 when it closed down for good due to lack of patronage or competition from other food establishments downtown during that time period

In 1922, W C Wyatt opened his business wagon dealership on Main Street which became one of the longest running truck dealerships in America at that time with over 120 years of history! He was followed by his son William Cecil Wyatt Jr who operated Wyatt's Tire & Wheel until his death in 1984. Afterward, other family members took over including their daughter Lois Easley Wyatt who operated her father's tire store from 1988-2005 before selling it to NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) which relocated it to Tulsa before closing it down permanently due to lack of funding In 2006, Wichita Lumber Company announced plans to close all its plants across America due to economic conditions and Layne Steel Corporation announced plans for a steel plant within walking distance of Sand Springs that would create up to 1,000 jobs As both companies made announcements about impending closures throughout 2006 and 2007 not much happened other than more homes being built or expanded into current housing development located near downtown Sand Springs However on July 15th 2008 when Walmart completed construction on Cartersville Road just east of downtownsand springs Walters announced they would be layoffs totaling hundred fifty five employees because of economic difficulties . This news created a huge stir among local residents as many had been anticipating such an announcement for some time now while others felt long overdue given Walmart’s past track record with job cuts Some tried suing Walmart while others rallied together support groups hoping this would lead to an change in policy
