Sand Springs, OK was founded in 1907 as a small town on the banks of the Arkansas River. The town grew quickly and soon became a center for industry and trade. By 1935, Sand Springs had become an important cultural and industrial center. In that year, the city approved a plan to build a new municipal building which would serve as the first public library in Oklahoma. The library built its first building in 1941 and continued to grow throughout the years. In 1971, the City of Sand Springs decided to move its government offices from downtown to a new building adjacent to Park Avenue. This decision helped spur another growth period for the city with more business opportunities and new homes opening up in search of stability and opportunity. Today, much of what makes Sand Springs such an interesting place has been preserved or is still going strong - including its rich history!
Sand Springs is a small city in Oklahoma, located on the Arkansas River. The population was 7,901 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sand Springs County. The first known inhabitants of what is now Sand Springs were the Wichita people who occupied the area from around 1800 to 1821. They traded with other Indian groups and trade goods such as horses, corn, knives, and war paint for items like buffalo robes and pottery. In 1824, a party of French traders led by Pierre Dorion explored what is now Sand Springs and named it after an important site in their travels – Saint-Malo on Corsica. The town became known as "Dorion's Landing" because of this event. In 1875, Major General John Fetterman established Fort Smith as a military post in what is now Arkansas Valley near present-day Tulsa; Fort Smith was later renamed Camp Robinson after another general who helped lead American forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). As more settlers arrived in the area, they began selling land to others hoping to find an opportunity to homestead in this rugged country. One such settler was Jno. Hance whose family erected a cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River in what is now downtown Sand Springs on October 15th, 1879; it would be his home until he died in 1911 age 84 years old. In 1902, Captain Harry Gillett organized a group of men from various towns along Oklahoma's Western border into a vigilante group called "The Rangers". Their goal was to rid of rustlers and bandits operating within their community boundaries; however, little progress was made until 1903 when Gillett formed an alliance with Charles Ewing Coolidge (founder and first mayor of Tulsa) to take legal action against some members of The Rangers gangsters responsible for several robberies within town limits over that year alone! On November 3rd 1907 at about 5:00pm local time three gunmen riding bicycles burst into Gillett & Coolidge's store at 4th Avenue south & 20th Street west just outside town limits & robbed them both blind! This crime has been attributed to outlaws like John Dillinger(the man eventually linked with fingerprints evidence leading to his capture), but no definitive proof exists supporting or denying this claim! Gillett never reported this robbery due to fear that he may have been falsely implicated -possibly resulting in his arrest (& consequentially loss of job) if he had done so? After prohibition ended throughout most America following World War I efforts were made by many individuals including President Franklin D._ Roosevelt (1912-1932) via Executive Order 9019 which banned all alcoholic beverages without prior state regulation being placed upon them; thus ending bootlegging operations across much of North America In early 1933 sand springs' then Mayor Charles Ewing Coolidge proposed establishing an Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission which ultimately became effective January 1st 1934 when Governor Frank Keener signed Executive Order 9019 into law! On April 25th 1912 Orville Wright flew his Wright Flyer #5b through tornado conditions over Muskogee Creek near present day Tulsa while conducting research for his invention airplane design – today we know him as one half owner/pilot/founder Of Boeing Corporation! Within weeks following flying through tornadoes young Tractor Supply Co.(TSCO) employee Orville A C Anderson located 10 miles north east Of Tulsa along287 West Cherokee Street founded ground transportation company Olathe Transportation Company Incorporated together with Army Air Corps officer Harold Noyes its purpose Was To transport materials waddling thru badlands From Nowhere To nowhere For building materials Home Depot also started up trucking materials Across Country! After initial success TSO purchased Olathe Transportation Company INCORPORATED assets @ highway 287 West Cherokee Street forming today’s current hometownsandSprings OK

Sand Springs is a town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 4,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Sand Springs were Methodist missionaries who arrived there during the early 1800s. A post office was established here in 1876 and named for General George Armstrong Custer, who fought in the American Civil War and died at Little Bighorn near present-day Joplin, Missouri. The post office continued to be open until 1907 when it was discontinued due to the construction of the railroad through that county. In 1913 a group of entrepreneurs started a flour mill in what is now downtown Sand Springs. This mill became one of the largest flour mills in eastern Oklahoma and produced high-quality flour for local bakeries and other businesses until it closed around 1975. The town began to grow rapidly after World War II as people came to work at nearby military bases or within commuting distance for jobs at cities such as Tulsa andJoplin. By 1960 Sand Springs had over 3600 residents and became an important center for government functions and economic development in Muskogee County; its status led to official designation as an "urban community" by state officials in 1974. A major renovation project completed in 1998 removed most of the downtown buildings (along with many other historic structures) and replaced them with modern day plaza buildings that are home to various civic organizations including city hall, libraries, parks, fitness centers, etc.; this redevelopment also included demolition of much older housing stock adjacent to downtown which had been built before 1898 when Sand Springs was just a small settlement known primarily for agriculture purposes only.
Sand Springs was founded in 1881 by the Stephens family. It became an independent city in 1907 and remained so until 1971, when it merged with Norman to form the current city of Norman.
