Sand Springs is a small town in Payne County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,948 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1889 by settlers from Illinois and Minnesota. The first post office was established in 1892. In 1907, the town became a city and was renamed Sand Springs. It lost its city status in 1967 and reverted to Payne County when it merged with other towns within Payne County. The economy of Sand Springs depends largely on agriculture which includes raising livestock, production of hay, cottonseed oil and other crops, and manufacturing of items such as tires and plastics products. Manufacturing has declined in recent years due to competition from elsewhere in the country; however, there are still some jobs available for people in various quarters of the community including service-industry jobs covering everything from janitorial work to salesclerks at local convenience stores

Sand Springs is a town in the Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Sand Springs was James McKay who arrived in 1868 when he and his family were driven out of their home west of Muskogee by a group of white men led by Captain John Sibley. McKay built a cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River and named it after his home town in Scotland—Aberdeen. In 1881, A.J. Henschel settled near where Sand Springs now stands and named it for himself—Henschel's Spring creek being nearby on that side of the creek bed). In 1906, Jocko Stevenson came to Sand Springs from McAlester with his family and founded Stevenson Drug store which still stands today as one of town’s most important businesses. Stevenson also farmed until he died in 1958 at age ninety-eight years old while serving as Mayor of Sand Springs. His grandson, Don Ladd Stevenson continues to operate Stevenson Drug Store as well as several other businesses including grain elevator, ice cream parlor and more recently an antique dealership/gallery complex called The Stevenson Collection housed within two connected buildings on Court Street between First & Second Streets (just east of I-35). The post office at 5th & Elm Streets was established on December 6, 1907; later moved to 6th Street then 8th Street before finally being moved back to its original location at 5th & Elm Streets in 1959 due to growth within the community that had taken up much space since then (the 1990s when downtown growth spanned both 6th & Elm Streets made it difficult for mail carriers to reach all parts of town). It was during this time period that one Mrs. Frances “Fannie” Willingham operating out from her farmstead just southwest of town started delivering groceries into town directly from her own vehicle using what became known locally as “The Wagon Wheel” because it could accommodate both horse drawn wagons and automobiles (this continued until around 2006 when Fannie passed away suddenly leaving behind nothing but memories behind). After thirty years service as Postmaster Msgr./Mrs.—Linda Moody took over operations beginning on October 1st 1998; eventually retiring effective November 15th 2013 after more than four decades incumbency making her oneof longest serving female postal employees anywhere in the country (& second onlyto legendary Postal Deputy USPS Administrator Alice Roberts who has served continuously since 1971)). Linda Moody remains popularly considered "Queen Of Mail" throughout much OFTEN cited reasons why she's widely respected even among those who have never received formal education beyond high school although many would say any individual who can run an independently operated post office should be able to do so better than Linda Moody ever did) . Sand Springs played host to several large international events during its history including: Opryland Park World Championship Show - June 3rd thru July 2nd 1951; Stroudsburg Airport Open Air Music Festival - August 17-20th 1957; American Auto Parts International Summit - September 25-29th 1973; US Olympic Committee Meeting - October 21st 1984; Oklahoman Expo '85 - April 12-15Th1985; Tulsa State Fairgrounds Exhibition Park '87-'88--all held inside city limits without incident or disturbance thanks largely(in part)to some very tight security measures currently employed by City officials regarding large scale events taking place outside city limits these days!). Sand Springs was founded in 1881 as a trading post on the banks of the Arkansas River. The town grew rapidly after it became the county seat in 1907. In 1912, Sand Springs became an independent city. A new Municipal Court Building was built in 1935 and is still used today. The city had a population of 100,000 by 1940 and 400,000 by 1960. By 1990, Sand Springs had dwindled to its current population of 30,000.
