With this money he purchased eight acres west of downtown Sand Springs from Elisha Hodge for $ . In November 1882 Mr. Whetstone erected a log cabin on what is now New Market Street within sight of today's municipal building and store complex which still stands today. On December 9th he married Sarah Goodrich (1848 – 1924), daughter of John Goodrich and Anna Maria Smith, at Elmwood Presbyterian Church southeast of town. That same year also saw the foundation stone being laid for what would become one of town's most important landmarks; City Hall which still stands today on Fourth Street north of US- 61/US- 67
