The Dust Bowl years of 1930-1940 created great difficulties for both Ponca City residents and farmers alike. Many people left Ponca City for rural areas due to lack of food or fuel supplies; many homes were destroyed in the Great Depression era storms that struck Oklahoma throughout 1933-1934. However despite these challenges lives continued relatively normal until World War II when most everyone left again because there were no jobs available in war-time America. Only a few families remain in Ponca City today including those who still farm; they are also self-sufficient with their own water supply and electricity coming from renewable sources like wind power or solar panels

Through hard work and determination these men built up their businesses into successful enterprises that thrived for many years until World War II interrupted their progress. The post-war period saw an influx of immigrants asOklahoma became a majority white state following the war; many Germans, Irishmen and Italian Americans settled in Ponca City. This change not only impacted individuals but also businesses which soon found themselves with few alternatives to hiring alien labor during wartime production shortages caused by America's involvement in World War II. These shortages have been one of Ponca City's most enduring legacies - even 50 years after it ceasedbeing an agricultural center - because Ponka can still be produced through horticulture alone without use of outside inputs such as fertilizer or energy! Merchandise retailing in downtown Ponca City declined during postwar decades due to two factors: (1) falling prices for domestically manufactured items relative to imported equivalents; (2) Speedy’s grocery store opening up competition that made it more difficult for local merchants to remain afloat). However, this decline did not last long as new development began popping up along Interstate 35W throughout central Oklahoma city during the late 1960s thru early 1970s bringing increased traffic and increasing economic opportunities for downtown business owners who could no longer rely solely upon government assistance to stay afloat; today’s shopping district – anchored by Safeway – reflects this growth pattern including its signature tall office towers housing banks and other commercial concerns that once sat adjacent to WWII veterans hospitals now defunct and derelict due principally to urban sprawl effects following Highway 99 construction project which bypassed downtown area creating what was then known as “the next big thing” before becoming a ghost town several miles ESE of current day plaza seating approximately 400 automobiles parked shoulder-to-shoulder on three levels beneath high concrete arches typical of Tulsa apartment complexes circa 1980-1985
The Ponca City Indian Nation was organized on November 6, 1867, by a group of chiefs and warriors under the leadership of Chief Santa Clara. The purpose of the organization was to protect the tribe's land, language, and culture from white settlers. The first post office in Ponca City was established in 1871. In 1902, Ponca City became an incorporated city. On December 11, 1912, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled that the tribe could not be forced to sell its land to whites. As a result of this decision, many Indians left Ponca City for better opportunity in other parts of Oklahoma.
