Owasso is located in the Canadian province of Manitoba, and it lies on the eastern edge of the Great Lakes region. Owasso was founded in 1881 by white people as a citrus orchard. The town was named after Major John Owsley, an American officer who served with the 2nd Regiment Manitoba Rangers during the Indian Wars from 1877-1879. In 1898, Owasso was renamed for former U.S. president James K. Polk and it remained that name until 1959 when it became its current name. As a small town, Owasso had difficulty attracting visitors due to its remote location and lack of amenities such as grocery stores or schools. However, over time, Owasso has made a significant addition to the community by becoming home to several local businesses including two banks, one insurance company, three churches, two factories and four homesbuilt since 1978 which have collectively become known as "The Village." Owasso Shooting Club was started in 1911 by J.C. Kinch and his wife, Nellie. The first target was a 10-inch buck shot by J.C. using a rifle he had just bought from the frontier town of Lakin, Oklahoma. Owasso shooting club quickly became an annual event and eventually expanded to include other shotguns, rifles, handguns and targets of all shapes and sizes. In 1948 the club changed its name to the Owasso Rifle & Pistol Club Incorporated (ORPC). In 1976 the ORPC moved from its original home on Elm Street in Owasso to what is now their current location on South County Road 356 in Owasso. Today the OWASC continues to offer events for members of the public as well as providing training for new shooters and leaders of local gun clubs across Oklahoma.

Owasso is a small city of about 26,000 people in central Oklahoma. It was founded in 1907 by the family of Benjamin Owasso, who ran a grocery store.
