In 1852 he also founded what would become Ogdenville with some land acquired from Mormon settlers there. By 1860, all but one of these settlements had been abandoned due to hard times caused by Kansas annexation into Texas during that year's Kansas-Mexico War; however, Nauvoo Landing continued to be used as a military post until it was abandoned in 1865 when Fort Riley was built nearby around which much of modern-day Owasso developed. In 1862 Cherokee Nation leader John Ross traveled through Indian Territory on his way south to help free the slaves in Texas; while here he met General George Custer at Fort Gibson outside Wichita Falls and persuaded him not to fight against American forces then under control of General Santa Anna—a decision that resulted in Custer's death at Little Bighorn two years later. This event helped start an immigration wave among Native Americans toward Central Canada where many prospectors had already gone before President Abraham Lincoln called for troops to suppress Confederate guerrilla activity during the American Civil War because slavery was illegal under Ulysses S Grant’s suspension of habeas corpus laws In 1865 white settlers began moving into what is now Owlson from neighboring towns such as Jenks and Midwest City; by 1870 most local residents were Anglo Saxon Protestants although some Métis people also lived there prior to white settlement This periodsaw rapid growth for owlson thanks largely to several factors: new transportation routes opening up due westward since World War I;the discovery of oil fields along Interstate 40 just east of town in 1907 led directly theretofore untapped economic opportunities;and steady cheap labor supplies coming out of Mexico following World War II .
