Owasso, Oklahoma is home to the largest gun magazine in the United States. The Oglala Gun Club has been operating since 1892 and publishes the "Owasso Review" which is one of the most popular gun magazines in the country. Smith and Company in honor of Mayor John Witherspoon of Tulsa, who had given birth to it at their company’s plant northeast of Tulsa on January 7th, 1907. On December 5th, 1911, citizens of Owasso raised $1,000 for the purchase of a machine gun from Brownells Arsenal located in Denver Colorado. The machine gun was finally acquired on February 26th 1912 and christened “The General Lee” after General Robert E Lee who had been Commandant at Fort Sill during World War I and later served as Governor of Virginia

Owasso was founded in 1907 by three men: George W. Dixon, James L. Baker and John D. Payne. The town is located in the eastern part of Oklahoma City and is situated on the Arkansas River. Owasso has a population of about 25,000 people today and it is the seat of government for Dawson County, Oklahoma. The town was named after Owsassee, a Creek Indian tribe who lived in what is now Tulsa County, Oklahoma before English settlers arrived in 1836. In 1907, Owasso's first post office opened and served a population of about 20 residents; by 1915, that number had grown to 100+. The first school in Owasso was built in 1916; it served grades one through twelve until 1948 when it was replaced by the present elementary/middle school which serves grades kindergarten through eighth grade. During World War II, Owasso became an important munitions plant due to its location on the Arkansas River flood plain; during the war, it produced more than 1 million tons of munitions. After the war ended, OWASSO resumed its normal business practices but experienced decline over ensuing years due to various factors including recessionary times and competition from other towns within Dawson County which had larger populations (particularly Tulsa). However, growth resumed following passage of the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) in 1966 which created incentives for local businesses to reinvest their proceeds into their communities rather than leaving them idle or dying off altogether; OWASSO reached its current size thanks largely to this policy shift. Today, OWASSO remains an important center for trade and commerce within Dawson County – both economically and culturally – with several popular shops and restaurants located within walking distance of each other as well as a library serving area citizens throughout the year! It's also home to many cultural events such as Oktoberfest & Folk Festival annually held at nearby Pawnee Park near downtown OKC while annual powwows & rodeos are also popular attractions hereabouts!

In the 1920s, Owasso began to become known as a major cottongrowing center due to its location on the Arkansas River.
