The history of target holders in Okmulgee, Oklahoma goes back to the early 1800s. One of the first settlers in that area was Captain James Purdy, who named his land “Okmulgee” after a local creek. He built his first cabin on the banks of the creek in 1824. By 1840, Purdy had developed a successful business selling targets and pistols to farmers and hunters in this area. TheCaptain also donated land to the town of Okmulgee for its initial development. In 1852, John Waddell opened a store at First and Elm Streets in Okmulgee. This store became one of the most popular locations in town for buying and selling items related to hunting, fishing, shooting sports and equipment. In 1860, Waddell married Anna Laughlin and moved from Tulsa toOklahoma City where he continued his business operations until his death in 1906. In 1907,Jimmie Smith started operating an ammunition company with his brother-in-law J C Ferguson near what is now First Street & Saginaw Road in Okmulgee. Smith operated this business until 1914 when he sold it to H G Putnam Sr who renamed it H G Putnam Ammunition Company Incorporated.. Putnam ran this company until 1940 when it was sold to F B Gibbs Co Incorporated which changed its name again to Freedom Arms Sporting Goods Co Incorporated.. In 1985 Freedom Arms Sporting Goods Co merged with National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) forming National Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF). currently NSSF operates as World Archery Federation

The opening of what is now Oklahoma Territory marked an important period for American Indians and Mexicans alike: it opened up more space for trade and commerce, which led to increased population growth on both sides of the border. After World War II ended, Oklahomans began moving into new neighborhoods throughout Tulsa and other cities in central OK County (now Tulsa). This growth created problems for local governments; they were not able to keep up with population growth or meet infrastructure needs such as schools or roads. In 1969, governor David Dewhurst called a special session of the Oklahoma Legislature to address these concerns. Through legislation known as House Bill 2268, Oklahomans voted to form their own government within their borders – this became known as "Oklahoma City." Today, Oklahomans are proud residents of their state and work hard every day to make it an amazing place to live, work and raise children.
Okmulgee was founded in 1872 by a group of pioneers who came from Oklahoma City. The town was named for the Okmulgee Hills, which are located east of the city. The first settlers were farmers who bought land in what is now Okmulgee and built their homes on ridges overlooking the river. By 1840, there were about 150 people living in Okmulgee. After several years of development, the town grew rapidly and by 1875 it had a population of 2,500 people. In 1896, the Indian Territory was created and Okmulgee became part of it. During World War I, the town served as a military base for the U.S. Seventh Cavalry Regiment stationed in Tulsa County. After the war ended, many residents left to find new opportunities in other parts of Oklahoma or Texas. Some returned to Okmulgee while others moved away again over time. In 1930, Okmulgee had an population of 8,000 people and began to develop into a large city with its own government and schools In 1960, OKMULGEE INDUSTRIES COMPANY (OKMULGEE INDUSTRIES) was formed when Tulsa-based Bell Telephone Company merged with American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T). At that time OKMULGEE INDUSTRIES included companies related to mining, oil production, transportation networks and other industries important to Tulsa's economy at that time As OKMULGEE CITY continued to grow during this period there were calls for more services such as libraries and parks within its boundaries In 1990s OKMULGEE CITY experienced some growth spurts due largely to advances made in telecommunications technology Today oklahomacity is one of largest cities in america with over 202k citizens
