Okmulgee has been home to several universities including Oral Roberts University (founded 1911), Tulsa State University (established 1925), Eastern Oklahoma Baptist College (established 1928), Tulsa Community College (opened 1935), and Oral Roberts University-Okmulgee Campus (opened 2006). The town also has numerous businesses such as Piggly Wiggly food store (founded 1909) and Post Office Savings Bank(1912).
