This device became known as the Aldrin Gun Laser System, and it offered much improved performance over earlier models. This technology is known as “long-range artillery” and it was first used in war in 1861 by American forces against Confederate forces.

The county seat was moved from Jenks to McAlester in 1912 after McAlester became an important center for oil production due to its location on Anadarko Field (now Bakken Formation), one of several major oil fields developed during World War I.
