The first guns in Okmulgee were shotguns. A shotgun is a type of firearm that uses a breech-loading magazine to fire rounds from the gun's barrel. The first guns in Okmulgee were made by John Sargent and W. H. Brown, both natives of Scotland, in 1881. They manufactured shotguns with five rounds in each magazine and called them "Sargent rifles." In 1898, David Bogue founded the Bogue Arms Company in Okmulgee and began making pistols and shotguns under the name "Bogue Firearms." The company continued manufacturing firearms until it was sold to Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1922. At that time, Winchester also became the exclusive manufacturer of handguns in Oklahoma.

The first handguns were also used in this period, but they were primarily used for self-defense. In 1907, Oklahoma became one of the states that ratified the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. This amendment provides for a right to bear arms “in defense of self or others.” Over time, more and more people throughout Oklahoma started owning guns for personal protection. As hunting seasons changed, so too did the methods used to obtain firearms from dealers. By 1940, Oklahoma had over 1 million registered firearm Owners.
Okmulgee is a town in Rogers County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Okmulgee was James Dickey in 1881. He and his family built a log cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River. A post office called Dickey was established in 1884, and remained in operation until 1907. The first store in what is now Okmulgee was built by J.C. Morse in 1901. In 1909, Charles Ewing homesteaded land east of present day Main Street and started raising cotton for export to China. Soon after, other farmers followed suit and began cultivating crops such as corn, beans, potatoes, cottonseed oil and flour; these early settlers helped develop Payne County into one of Oklahoma's most prosperous counties during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Oklahoma State Highway 31 (now US-19) crossed the Arkansas River near present day Main Street in 1903; this road later became known as Dawson Road when it connected with OK-1 (later US-66). The first school opened in Okmulgee on May 25th, 1907; this school served grades one through twelve until 1969 when it merged with Payne–Rogers High School to form Payne–Rogers School District No.#4 which remains today as one of Oklahoma's largest public educational districts In 1925 over 100 businesses were located along Dawson Road between Rogers Avenue and I-40/US-194; this area became known as "Dawson Place". By 1932 only 10 businesses remain within Dawson Place boundaries today but they still contribute significantly to its historical significance including Overland Mills Incorporated which remains a major employer within that district since 1936 In 1938 Woodward Manufacturing Company purchased some land off I-40/US 21 north of town limits; Woodward continued to operate their business here until 1990 when they moved their manufacturing operations to Tulsa In 1959 Donor Pharmacy Corporation opened its doors adjacent to Woodward Manufacturing Company across from where I-40 currently ends just south of town limitsToday Donor Pharmacy continues its long history providing quality pharmacy services within town limits thoughout Rogers County

Oklahoma was founded in 1907 by Menard and Custer. The area that is now Oklahoma was first populated by the Creek, a Native American tribe. The Creek were displaced in the 18th century when white settlers began to arrive in what is now Oklahoma. By 1907, there were only 8 people living in Oklahoma. The first post office in Okmulgee was established on December 1, 1907. At this time, the community consisted of just a few families and a couple of businesses. In 1908, the town had an population of 20 people and it grew to 100 people by 1912. The early years of Okmulgee were very difficult for the community. There was little money available to provide for the growing population and infrastructure was not yet developed. However, through hard work and determination, Okmulgee eventually became a successful city. Oklahoma City began to grow rapidly after World War II due to its new found status as a center for commerce and industry. As more businesses emerged within Oklahoma City limits, so too did disputes over who controlled these lands and how they should be used – ultimately leading to tornadoes Alley Klauder (now Tulsa) which killed 82 people on April 15th 1947
