Okmulgee was founded in 1872 by John C. Haskell, a rancher and business man. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the confluence of the Arkansas and Canadian Rivers, as well as its natural resources. In 1907, Okmulgee became an incorporated city with a population of over 100,000. The city's economy depended on agriculture and manufacturing; however, these industries have since contracted or disappeared. The history of airguns in Okmulgee, Oklahoma began with the first legal shooting of firearms in the city on October 7, 1909. The first club to be registered with the Oklahoma State Rifle Association was the “Canton Gun Club” which met at a saloon on Cherokee Street. There were many other small clubs and associations until 1912 when it became illegal to possess airguns without a license from the state government. In 1916, an ordinance was passed that authorized Airgun collectors to be formed within the city limits and required all citizens over 18 years of age to have a license issued by the police department. In 1922, an ordinance was passed that established dictating safety rules for airguns and required owners of any airgun not possessed pursuant to state law or regulation to keep such guns unloaded at all times while in their custody or storage. In 1925, another ordinance was passed authorizing licensed gun dealers within city limits to sell handguns as well as shotguns, rifles and pistols including those possessed by members of organized crime syndicates. This new legislation helpedto increase gun sales in Okmulgee which had been stagnant for some time due primarily to prohibition laws being opposed by many residents who felt that any type of open arms competition would lead to more gun theft and violence. In 1930, another ordinance was passed establishing regulations governing ammunition sales within Okmulgee including requiring purchasers not owning any handguns or shotguns within city limits (or having any ammunition stored therein) to purchase rounds separately from other items subject to taxation purposes at registration rates fixed by law. This new legislation helped increase ammo sales which had been decreasing for some time because criminals were able to purchase large quantities of rounds without detection since they knew that they wouldn’t be caught with munitions like grenades or rockets inside their homes). Okmulgee is a small town in the far northwest corner of Oklahoma, and it's one of the poorest and most rural communities in the state. The population was 1,883 as of 2010, and it's mostly made up of Native Americans. The town is named after an Indian chief who lived thereabouts during the 18th century. It was first settled by white people in the 1840s, and they were mainly farmers. But soon enough, Okmulgee became a center for buffalo hunting and trading. And because of that, it developed into one of Oklahoma's largest cattle towns. Today, Okmulgee still relies heavily on agriculture—mainly cattle ranching—to generate its income. However, there are some small businesses doing well too: a bank, several small stores, and a few restaurants. In addition to those businesses however, much of Okmulgee's infrastructure has been destroyed by recent tornado damage; namely schools and churches that have been completely destroyed or damaged beyond repair.

When he died in 1893 at age 58 after leading his group into battle against Apaches near Waco Creek Bridge near present day Tulsa County, his awards went to his son Andrew Custer Jr., who would later become governor of Oklahoma
Okmulgee was founded in 1868 by the Choctaw people. The town was named for a creek that ran through the area. As the town grew, it became an important trading post and transportation center. In 1907, Okmulgee was renamed to its current name, Oklahoma City, after statehood.
