The Norman Pistol and Rifle Club, Inc. was founded in 1907 in Norman, Oklahoma by a group of businessmen. The club became the first rifle and pistol shooting organization in the city. In 1916, the club moved from its original location on Elm Street to what is now the Zimmerman Athletic Center. The club’s first president was J.B. Hennessey. The club continued to grow and changed its name to the Norman Pistol and Rifle Club in 1922. In 1945, the Normans merged with the Tulsa Gun Clubs Association to form the Tulsa Pistol and Rifle Club Incorporated (TPSC). From 1945-1949, TPSC held annual meetings at Norris Auditorium in downtown Tulsa. From 1949-1969, TPSC met at McAlester Municipal Stadium each year until it moved to its current location on First Avenue NE in 1969. During this time period, TPSC hosted several international championships including a world cup of pistols in 1954 which resulted in American team members taking home several medals including two golds and four silvers; a national championship for rifles in 1957 which resulted in four medals including one gold; an event called “The Open” where top shooters from around the country came together to compete; as well as several other shoots such as Trap & skeet matches etc., all of which were open to all NRA members regardless of power level or experience
