He ordered his troopers to charge into the town center where they massacred all of its occupants including women and children before withdrawing back across the border into Mexico without further loss of lifeciting then Chief Crazy Horse's orders not to engage in friendly fire with white men). In 1893, Wma rancher John Wesley Hardin donated land east of town to be used for agricultural purposes which became what is today called "Hardin Ranch". One of Mustang's earliest residents was James Aiken who settled there in 1876 following a strike force he organized consisting of himself, other citizens and several hundred Cowboys led by General Phil Sheridan. Aiken homesteaded 640 acres (248 hectares) southeast of town on Black Mesa Creek which became known as "Aiken Place." After two years he sold his interest to Jno Hasty Baker who developed it into large ranches including Old Hickory Farms near modern day Tulsa and White Sands Station northwest of town along Buffalo Bayou.. In 1922hardy Hardware founder James Hardy moved his business operations from Reno Californiato Tulsa so he could open a hardware store here that would become one of the most successful hardware stores ever founded north America
