Mustang is a small town in Oklahoma, located about seventy miles northwest of Oklahoma City. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskogee County metropolitan area. Mustang was founded in 1907 by John A. Ferguson and his family as a small town on the east bank of the Arkansas River, just upstream from present-day Tulsa. The name "Mustang" was given to the first automobile manufactured there in 1908 by George Wickersham and Sons Ltd., makers of horse-drawn cars. In 1925, when Route 66 bypassed Mustang and moved into nearby Tulsa, Ford Motor Company donated land north of town for its new manufacturing plant. The old Ford factory closed in 1978 but remains standing as an industrial park with a variety of businesses including restaurants, retail stores and office buildings. Today, Mustang has become known for its annual Fourth of July parade through downtown featuring floats made entirely out of horses or mules carried on poles decorated with patriotic symbols such as American flags and bright colors; it is also home to the Stampede rodeo which takes place every fall.

Mustang is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 711 at the 2000 census. It has been reported that the first post office in Mustang was established on February 17, 1875. Ford Motor Company began production of cars there in 1908 and the town name waschanged to Mustang on October 15, 1938. The town was again renamed to Mustang after World War II when much of the staff of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) located in nearby Tulsa were transferred to the city for wartime Production purposes. In 1957, LAC moved back to Tulsa and the town reverted back to its original name on October 15th 1958. The history of Mustang can be traced back to 1875 when A C Dodge opened a store hereabouts and started selling goods from his wagon which he had brought over from Texas. This early store operated until 1881 when it burned down due to fireworm activity which destroyed many homes in that area at that time. A new store was built and Dodge continued operations until 1886 when he sold out his interest in the business and moved away from this location permanently. The first post office in Mustang was established on February 17th, 1875 by P C Hodge with W M Easley as his clerk. On October 15th 1938, it changed its name to "Mantown" after being renamed by General Motors during World War II as part of their plant relocation efforts eastward following Japan's bombing raids against American cities such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki . In 1957, LAC relocated their production activities back into Tulsa so that they could continue doing so under one roof while they awaited completion of their new facility northward across I-35W from downtown Tulsa . This move heralded an end for what would become known as "Mantown"'s long era of independent operation; however, local residents still refer to themselves as "Mantownians" today! Today's population of 711 people is largely composed of middle class families who have lived here for generations; however there are also a few scattered working Class citizens who have relocated here over time or whose families have done so since before independence day! One interesting fact about this community is that all but two members of its current school board were appointed through ballot box voting rather than elected officials!
Mustang was first settled in 1881 by the citizens of Oklahoman Territory. It became a town in 1907 and continued to grow until it was annexed into Oklahoma City in 1907. The post office closed in 1951, but the town continued to exist as an unincorporated community until its annexation into Oklahoma City.
