After years of growth, Mustang's primary industry became agriculture until recently when heavy machinery manufacturing has become dominant due to nearby Lawrence Livermore National Labs (LLNL). Since World War II, there have been many changes to Mustang's economy including: a loss of jobs due to low oil prices; annexation of neighboring towns; timberjacking operations that destroyed much of the local scenery; increased development around LLNL; high poverty rates among residents because no benefits have been provided for them by businesses or government entities; recent efforts by community members to bring back some economic activity through arts festivals/events/movies etc.; and most notably, growing support for alternative energy sources such as solar power which has led to new construction projects throughout town as well as renewable energy features on various public buildings like homes
