This event has been called one of the worst air raids of World War II because it resulted in extensive damage to Dresden and other towns nearby which resulted in thousands of homeless people seeking shelter within days of the raid. After WWII Mustang experienced rapid growth due to its location as an important rail junction for both eastern oil production (refineries along I-44) and western agriculture (ranches that extended into Grady County). Growth stagnation occurred during the late 1960s through early 1980s due to several factors such as increased competition from other cities within Grady County for jobs away from downtown Tulsa; increasing rural poverty; changes in highway development patterns which removed most east-west traffic off I-44; declining birthrates among working class residents; and unrestricted land trust sales which led to decreased investment by developers resulting in lower housing prices throughout much oftownscape until recently when restrictions have been placed on new development . Mining began around 1890 when gold was discovered at Silliman Creek but ended with only a few ounces recovered before it ceased operations due to low grade ore content . However local citizens continue mining today for silver about two miles northeast of town on private land leased from KOEPE Minerals Company In 1951 Ford Motor Company began producing cars here at their plant now known as Dearborn Assembly Plant . In 1957 they built a dealership across Hwy 169 from downtown Tulsa adjacent to Naugatuck High School now known as Dearborn Ford
