Mustang was platted on November 5, 1907 by J.B. Withers and other early settlers in what is now Muskogee County. The name "Mustang" means "horse pasture." A post office called Mustang was established in 1908, and remained open until it merged with Gadsden in 1912. The first store in Mustang opened its doors on October 24, 1909 by J.W Ireland and his brother-in-law Henson Laughlin. By 1916 there were six stores in town; two were bootleggers' stores that sold liquor directly to customers on side streets near their businesses or fromwagon loads delivered to local homes weekly or biweekly. In 1916 T Smith became the first white man to own an automobile when he bought a Ford Model T for $300 from Rube Goldberg's Automotive Works Inc., which had built it for Ford Motor Company president Henry Ford Jr.'s personal use as a promotional vehicle for his new product line known as the Shelby GT350 Thunderbird sports car series lineup that year In 1918 P C Fenton organized the first Farmers' Union meeting in Muskogee County when he met with delegates from several agricultural societies at Muskogee Methodist Episcopal Church before traveling to Lawton to attend a convention of farmers sponsored by the National Agricultural Chamber of Commerce later that year . That same year local residents voted unanimously not to annex Washita County because they felt it would take away their right to vote and elect their own officials within their county . On January 8, 1919 while attending a committee hearing on annexation petitions being filed with both counties we saw General George S Patton arrive with his Air Corps unit flying overhead after performing aerial bombing raids over Germany during World War I . The following month irrigation trucks arrived from Houston loaded with water donated by American Water Companies founder Sam Rayburn delivering water supplies for up to sixty miles west of Tulsa including parts of rural Muskogee and Shawnee Counties necessary for crop production during drought years according as early as 1921 residents began using hand pumps rather than buckets or lugging water twenty miles downriver each time they needed access due incessant flowouts from nearby hillsides caused by recent construction work along US 54 across Beaver Creek Reservoir which began Preliminary Engineering Work on July 20th 1924 Withdrawing Federal funding prior To completion This project cost $2 million dollars though no blood has been spilt since then – making it one of history’s largest private sector public works projects ever completed without federal assistance

Mustang is a town in Beckham County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mustang was founded on November 10, 1907 by George W. Patton and his wife Sarah. The name comes from Mustangs ranch where they were grazing cattle when they discovered it had been abandoned by its previous owner. On December 30, 1907, the first post office in Mustang opened with nine residents named Williams. By 1912, there were twenty-one residents and four churches in the community. In 1916, the first school open for students in Mustang was Mrs Tilton's School which taught third grade until 1917 when a new school building was erected which would serve as high school for thirty years until it closed in 1996 after becoming too small for all of the students. The first oil well drilled in Beckham County was located within two miles of Mustang on October 3rd 1913 by JB Wellman & Son under contract to Noble Oil Company with an output of . On November 8th 1913 (the day before Thanksgiving) WF Hinson drilled a well at Blanchard #1 under contract to Noble Oil company with an output of . On January 6th 1914 EK Huntdrill drilled a well at Bushnell No 4 west of Hogantown under contract to Noble Oil Company with an output of On February 17th 1914 FP Shaw hit oil bearing earth about six miles east of Mustang near what would become known as "Shaw's Well". This discovery marked Starkville's entrance into business as an oil producing town and also led to their later nickname "The Hubs" due to this well being their most productive venture during that time frame.
