The post office was established in 1911 and named after General George Armstrong Custer's regiment of cavalry which had fought in the Mexican-American War under General Crook. In 1923, Roy Wagoner built a large ranch house on what is now Main Street near Highway 191 south of town to serve as an official depot for local mail deliveries. Wagoner also opened a general store which became one of the largest within Mustang until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1995, Mustang voters approved passage of a Measure 2 ballot measure authorizing construction of a new high school located off US 169 east of town (then known as State Route 159). The new high school was dedicated on September 12, 1997 by then-Governor Don Kempthorne with remarks by then-Senator Bill Frist (R-Oklahoma City). It has since been renamed Romeo High School after its namesake Romeo Langford who played baseball for University Station High School before attending Oral Roberts University where he won two state championships and NCAA Division I Baseball championships while playing collegiately for his Alma Mater; Oral Roberts University Tigers . While still attending Oral Roberts he set an unofficial record with 41 hits in one season including 10 home runs during their 1986 National Collegiate Athletic Association championship season play against Texas Christian University Cowboys; Oral Roberts Tiger’s eventually winning that game 9-3

Mustang is a small town in Oklahoma, located about 20 miles north of the state capital, Oklahoma City. The population was 5,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskogee County seat area. The first settler in what is now Mustang was George Witherspoon, who arrived in 1881. He named his new land Belle Isle after his daughter's name, Belle. A post office called "Montezuma" was established in 1903 and remained in operation until 1907. In 1907, a group of businessmen from Tulsa bought 1,000 acres (405 hectares) of land east of Belle Isle for $3 per acre ($24 per hectare). They named their new township "Mustang". The town became an important transportation center because it had a railroad depot and served as the terminus for several trains travelling between Tulsa and Jenks. Mustang also hosted a smallpox vaccine plant operated by Drs John Doolittle and Jacob Riis during World War I. In 1932, the original townsite around Belle Isle was surveyed to become an incorporated community known as Mustang Village which had a population of 716 residents. However, this incorporation didn't take place until 1934 when it merged with nearby Jenks to form one municipality with a population of 3,471 residents including Mustang Village and Jenks Township (later Muskogee County). Prior to post-World War II settlement there were no schools or hospital within sight of any resident; however citizens contributed money towards erection of two churches – First Methodist Church on State Highway 362 east side and Baptist church on Wilson Road northwest side – both completed before 1945 without seeing any benefit from its construction since they were well outof reach for most people living in those days outside big cities like Tulsa or Oklahoma City due to closed-off country lanes just outside these city limits at that time providing little opportunity for easy access either way once you got past these rural areas especially if you wanted to get into town since there wasn't much open land beyond these areas other than some stretches near major highways like US 287 east side which provided limited opportunities for farming operations once you got close enough so as not to impede traffic flow onto or off these high speed highway
