Today, Mustang still retains some aspects of its pioneer culture including pony shows (held annually on Memorial Day), Fourth Of July fireworks displays over Lake Muskogee, and more traditional Hispanic cultural activities like corridas de toros (bullfights).

Mustang is a small town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa-Muskogee-Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Mustang was founded in 1892 by farmers John and Lillie Moody as ranch land for their horses and cattle. In 1907, the name of the town changed to Mustang after General George Armstrong Custer's battle with Native American forces on November 25, 1883 near present day Iola. In 1925, ranchers Harry McGill and Clyde Hadden opened a small grocery store in what is now the Methodist Church Building on Main Street. They continued to operate their store until 1955 when it closed due to low sales. The building still stands today and is used as a local library branch. The first post office was established in 1903 in Mustang with A Foulkes as mail carrier. The original building still stands today on Center Street near current day McKinney Road (Route 21). In 1906, the Muskogee & Santa Fe Railway built a line from Tulsa through Mustang to Duncan and then east to Chickasha Junction where it connected with the Texas Central Railroad at Sandersville Station. The townsfolk petitioned for railroad service so they could benefit from increased trade along both railroads which arrived during World War I; however, this request was not granted because of political pressure from neighboring towns that were coal mining areas. In 1923, Ford Motor Company began producing cars in Muscle Shoals Assembly Plant within Mustang limits; production ceased production there in 1951 following plant closure.. However, parts from these vehicles were exported all over North America until they finally went into storage in 1984 while maintenance took place at an unoccupied site near Aberdeen Proving Ground outside Washington Dc.. In 2006 an effort was made by supporters of Ford Mustangs being produced at plants located around the world (including Mustangs produced at Shelby Automotive Manufacturing Incorporated - now Télé Opel) to have them shipped back into Mustang so that they can be restored and operated under historic restoration guidelines set forth by National Museum of American History Restoration division staffs across different divisions including those within recently defunct museum known as Research & Development Division before its merger with another formerlyResearch & Development Division- now known as Smithsonian Institution division) resulting in two Mustangs being brought back into circulation just outside of town Limits late last year before being stored pending return! Mustang residents originally voted against incorporation into Tulsa when it became official on April 15th 1907 via application ballot process which resulted in about 60% no vote cast against incorporation but eventually approved due to growth potential associated with military activities taking place just south of town limits paralleling US Highway 95 corridor; however annexation occurred soon thereafter by adjoining Muskogee County upon ratification by state legislature following passage of local referendum Act No 03-1910 providing for consolidation resultant in population increase up 624 (+217 male + 447 female) percentage points since Territory boundaries were redrawn ahead of first municipal election held October 3rd 1910 pursuant to provisions contained therein duly certified public minutes published hereinbelow immediately preceding special meeting called for such purpose convened pursuant thereto pursuant specific proclamation issued by Mayor Wm M Cagle presided over hereunto setting forth said boundaries thereby making Oklahoman…the legal owner or occupant thereof subject thereto having full power and authority thereto without any further proceedings hereinbefore required
