Another suggestion for the origin of this name might be that it comes from one of several forks in Little Arkansas River which empties into Buffalo Bayou near present-day Muskogee; these forks are known as Muskoka and Moccasin Fork respectively. This fork joins up with Arkansas River about east of present day Muskogee at what is now called Indianola due to alluvial deposition over time. A post office has been established at Muskogee since 1907, but it only served residents of Caldwell City until 1912 when it became an incorporated town within Muskogee County limits with its own postmaster general and mail service
