Muskogee is located on the Muskogee River. The name "Muskogee" means "lake of blue corn" in Cherokee Indian language.
The town was founded by Captain George Hennepin during the early 1800s as part of what became Creek Nation. In 1868, Muskogee was moved from its original location on Horse Creek to its current place due to land purchases made by President Andrew Johnson following his visit to Oklahoma Territory that year. In 1907, Muskogee's first post office was established and it has been Operated since then by the US Postal Service under various names including "Owasso", "Eagle Point", and finally "Muskogee".
In 1961, a new courthouse was built in downtown Muskegon Heights which replaced an earlier structure which had failed to meet code requirements for earthquake resistance. In 2005, a new library building was constructed adjacent to the old courthouse in downtown Muskegon Heights which served as both a police station and jail until 2007 when it closed due to budget cuts.
In 2006, construction began on a $27 million project which will include expanded shopping malls with restaurants and other retail outlets as well as new public education facilities including an elementary school and two high schools

Downtown Muskegon Heights also saw major development beginning in the late 1990s when several apartment buildings were erected along Darnell Street across from City Hall.DMHt

According to recent estimates, about 60% of all jobs within muskokee are related directly or indirectly to technology - making it one of Tulsa’s fastest growth areas. currently there are no grocery stores within muskokee but this may change given that Walmart plans to open up shop there soon< br />
There are several churches located throughout town but none have any larger congregations than those found in neighboring towns like Jenks or Yukon.< br />

Muskogee, Oklahoma is a small town located in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by settlers from eastern Missouri. The town seat was first established at Wilburton and it moved to its present location in 1907. The main business districts are downtown, which contains a mix of retail and service businesses; and the rural areas around the villages of Holland and Rogersdale. The history of Muskogee began with traders coming down the Arkansas River in search of new land to extend their trade routes into what is now known asOklahoma Territory. In 1821, one such trader, John Wilkinson (1786-1864), traveled upriver from St Joseph County to find an opening into this territory. He found it when he discovered oil seeps near today's Tulsa on July 4, 1821. This discovery immediately led to new land speculation among investors who rushed to purchase blocks of 160 acres (60 ha) each for $5 per acre ($100 total). Wilkinson named his newly found land Muskogee after his home state of Missouri - thus starting America's first oil boomtown! In 1881, two other pioneers - James Hays and Hiram Berry - arrived in Muskogee from nearby Choctaw Nation along with thirteen others seeking development opportunities throughout Indian Territory (). After some initial struggles including a failed attempt by local entrepreneurs to open a store on Main Street (!), Hays & Berry quickly became successful merchants/ businessmen developing key industries including cattle ranching and flour milling (). By 1903 they had opened three stores statewide (+ oneranch), but soon faced competition from larger towns like Wichita Falls and Topeka (). Bustling industry didn't last long however as within five years most residents had returned home or left for better opportunities elsewhere ([1903]). With business failures came social unrest as men struggled against difficult economic conditions while women labored long hours singlehandedly providing meals for their families ([1905]). In 1916 efforts were made by local officials to revive interest in the town through cultural programs aimed at improving communication between natives and newcomers ([1915]). However these initiatives stalled due largely to lack of funds [] Thereafter limited public investment characterized much post-war Muskogee life until solid economic reforms commenced following World War II efforts (. . .)
The Muskogee region of Oklahoma was settled by the Wichita and Otoe nations in the 1830s. The area became a part of the United States in 1845. TheMuskogee Nation was formed in 1907 and named for the Creek Sioux word "muskoka" which means "trees with a long trunk." In 1911, the tribe acquired land east of Tulsa to form what is now Oklahoma City.
