Because of this service active citizens helped build troop barracks and other infrastructure necessary for war efforts including tanks and other large equipment storage areas across town. After the war ended many of these structures were destroyed but others such as USArmy Air Station Internment Camp Noordhorn remain standing today as historically significant landmarks within the community
