In 1881, General William Tecumseh Sherman ordered all Indian tribes to stop using muzzleloading weapons and convert to European-made rifles. White of the 5th Cavalry Regiment developed a new type of rifle cartridge named after him, the James W. White Rifle Cartridge. White Rifle Cartridge became popular among frontier gun owners and quickly spread through America. It was also used by Australia during World War I. These rounds were first fired from cannons located at Fort Riley on November 17th 1863 during Union forces' attempt to storm these cannons during Battle Of Prairie du Chien which resulted in a loss for Confederate forces An Ordinance was passed by the Missouri Legislature authorizes production of projectiles composed principally or entirely of iron or brass without any mixture thereof without prior warning excepting such proportions as may be necessary for training military officers; provides for punishment of violators; establishes regulations concerning manufacturers and consumers Castle Rock Arsenal commenced operations on October 1st 1870 producing over one million rounds per month utilizing a variety of different calibers including but not limited to: .50 caliber (6 shot), 7 mm (.30 cal.), 8 mm (.25 cal.), 9 mm Luger (9 shots), 10 gauge (10 shots) & 12 gauge (12 shots). Production ended in 1978 however remaining stockpiles remain today providing family farms throughout Oklahoma with needed munitions

This new route connected Tulsa with Wichita Falls and Dallas/Fort Worth via OKC (then called Edmond) before reachingmuskegon Avenue in downtown Tulsa just south of US-280 (now I-40).
