Moore is a small town in Oklahoma, and its history goes back to the 1860s. The first people to live in this area were the Osage Indians. They vacated the area in 1868 because of white settlers moving into the area. In 1871, Moore was founded by Andrew Beadle and James Hargrave. It was named after Samuel Moore, a landowner in neighboring Indian Territory. By 1907, Moore had a population of just over 100 people. In 1911, Moore became part of the newly created Oklahoma Territory. The town's population continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1930 with 1,500 residents. However, by 1940 its population had decreased to just over 500 people again. The decline ofMoore can be attributed to many factors: World War II; oil depletion; and agriculturalDecline due to changes in lifestyle which made for more reliance on trucking and other means for goods delivery.. During the late 1960s through early 1970s, when local television stations began regularly airing high school sports games within three miles of their studios (the "K-State Game"), attendance at local venues such as Walmart declined precipitously as citizens turned instead to watching these games on television screens inside their homes or businesses... ensuing public reaction led Tulsa-based KOCO-TV (channel 3) owner Sam Asheton - who owned both stations at that time -to place a bid for control of Moore's lone radio station KBVO (88.7 FM) during what would prove to be an unsuccessful bidding war that included then-Houston Astros owner Preston Tucker (later founder and CEO of Time Warner Cable)). Asheton ultimately won out and purchased both stations from Tucker for $1 million cash - making him sole owner/operator of both channels). With only two major sources of revenue remaining (tv viewership taxes paid by broadcasters on behalf of listeners via advertising sales generated from playing those games plus modest royalties earned from airtime actually spent by hosts interviewing players), Asheton decided not only did he not want either channel "bogged down with debt" but also could no longer afford Keane Broadcasting Co.'s extensivearton operations which produced popular music videos such as Perry Como's song "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" recorded live at KTUL studios [now Tulsa TV station KOKH] while also airing locally produced newscasts... thus ceasing production half way through 1981). Consequently KOJO discontinued regular programming altogether on October 10th 1981 due almost entirely to financial difficulties caused by low listener support hours after 8pm daily following years trend begun with WBVO...... Widespread economic recession throughout much U.S., includingOklahoma City particularly affected media industry... Shortly before his death at age 87 upon declaration bankruptcy due largely poor health status related primarilyto liver cirrhosis he sold most assets & relinquished all broadcasting rights & management responsibilities reverted back unto city authorities effective January 1st 1984..... Prior thereto he had been president pro tempore 5 times thru 1987 prior service being interruptionred due merely one day ill health....... On November 14th 1978 broadcast license #8669 was issued----- giving city authority over all media properties.........Today there are only 2 commercial radio stations licensed outside OKLAHOMA CITY proper:(KOKH(FM) 97portersburg KY outlet & 99mile high 105amc)...City has NONE OF THE MEDIA SERVICES PROVIDED BY CITIES IN OTHER STATES INCLUDING Tulsa OR oklahoma City.......Moore has experienced numerous lows during various stages throughout its history............Current situation: nonstop demolition/remodeling going on right now within old post office building---- In 1889, Charles Fenton established Fenton Manufacturing Company near present day Junction City, Kansas City County,. Moore was founded by George Moore in 1881. He built the first trading post in the area and named it Moore's Fort. The fort served as a military base during the American Civil War, and also played a role in later wars. In 1907, Moore donated land to the city of Oklahoma City for its own city government.
