In 1949, Moore became the county seat of McAlester County after it was moved from Jenks due to political gridlock inOklahoma City at that time.Today, McAlester County has a population of over 200 thousand people and its primary function is serving as the county courthouse where various legal proceedings are held including probate hearings and marriage licenses Moore also has a few smaller businesses that are still active today like Golden-Grits Casino which offers casino games including blackjack, roulette, craps and video poker; Asphalt Emporium which sells asphalt products such as pavers/patios/sidewalks;and Brady's Barber Shop which provides service such as headshots/shave / haircut etc The Community Center in downtown McAlester also played host to many events throughout its years including dances hosted by local churches during Special Events Week or Centennial Days; civic meetings called by school governing boards during special budget deliberations; community fairs; art shows; horse shows etc In recent years there have been some efforts made by local officials and citizens alike to revitalize downtown McALESTER with things likeinstalled streetlights (somedating back to 1978), refurbished sidewalks/patios/paving projects etc Besides all this downtown activity there are also several other areas within McAlesters borders that offer interesting history include: Shell Hill neighborhood near east OKC campus - home of University Microfilm Company (now part of OReilly Media) from 1893 until its closure in 1985 due primarily to World War II bombing raids; Bricktown area located just southwest of OKC on State Highway 66 - once one of largest Latino working-class neighborhoods in America ; Springdale - once known for producing more pharmacyacists than any other city in North America ; Shawnee Hills - now one of most diverse neighborhoods outside urban centers across different socioeconomic backgrounds
Moore, Oklahoma was one of the poorest and most segregated cities in the United States during the early 20th century. The city was founded in 1907 by J.D. Moore as a small trading post on the edge of Indian Territory. The post became a boomtown after gold was discovered in the area. The city grew rapidly, but it was also highly segregated by race and social class. By 1920, only about 12 percent of Moore's population was black, while 87 percent of its residents were white. Despite this segregation, Moore experienced significant growth throughout the 1920s and 1930s as businesses flourished thanks to its easy access to resources and cheap labor from surrounding rural areas. In 1933, however, Moore experienced another waves of racism when white supremacists attempted to drive out all black people from the city via violence and boycotts. This experience led to increased social tensions and eventually riots that occurred in 1934 and 1935%.
