John Fiske Moore was born in1881 into a prominent family in northwest Oklahoma City. His father was an attorney who became president of the University Club Trust Company and then president (1911–13)of Northern Pacific Railway Company where he increased fares on his trains by 50%. John FiskeMoore attended Harvard College but left when he got married; he instead transferred to Northwestern University Law School where he met his future wife Alice Palmer Heflin who also attended Northwestern Institute for Women Studies before becoming Anoka County District Court judge (1966–1977). They had two children: Todd (born November 17, 1927)and Karen (born October 21st 1929). Todd became U S Senator from Oklahoma from 2001 until 2007 while Karen continued her political career until she retired effective July 1st 2017 having served over 36 years including 9 terms as Mayor Pro Tem for Tulsa City Schools!
Moore was founded in 1907 by Wiley B. Moore, a rancher and banker who also became the first mayor of the town. The town grew rapidly during the 1910s and 1920s, thanks to its location on a main route between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. In 1929, Moore became the seat of government for both Tulsa County and Oklahoman County, which merged in 1907.
