He remained mayor until his death on November 17, 1995 while serving as chairman emeritus of AAGI from 1997-2005; he had been mayor since 1985 when he took office following Roy Tilton's retirement from office.[1] On July 24, 2006,[2] Bill Rogers succeeded Aaconcaglia as mayor effective September 1st 2006[3][4]. Rogers had been elected to succeed him as mayor on May 9th 2006 but resigned effective September 1st due to term limits set forth in HB 496 which repealed all city charter Amendments made between 1984 and 1998 that granted more than one mayoral term per year during their duration; this effectively limited Rogers' potential for re-election should he choose to run for another term should they expire prior to expiration set forth under HB 496.[5][6][7]
