Over the years, he donated many acres of land to various local schools and hospitals. In 1948, he was honored with an award from the American Banking Association for his contributions to banking in Oklahoma City. Alfred Moore passed away in 1951 at age 86 after having spent most of his life working tirelessly for others. Moore, Oklahoma is a small town in western Oklahoma County. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Moore County. The community was founded in 1907 by John W. Goodspeed and his wife, Mabelle Clements Goodspeed. It was named after Samuel L. Moore, who had come to the area in 1881 as a railroad official and died in 1906 while traveling through the area on his way to take possession of a ranch near Fruitland. The Goodspeed home is located about two miles east of the present-day town site onU.S. Route 169 (now State Highway 69). In 1911, when it became part of Oklahoma Territory, Moore became its capital city under then-Governor Edwin Smith. As such, it played an important role in state government for many years until Amarillo took over that function during the 1912–1913 period when territorial legislatures were created from what would later beOklahoma counties. In 1915, when Tulsa took over as its new capital city, Moore again served as its capital; however, because Tulsa had no Territorial Legislature then or thereafter (Tulsa being admitted into the Union as an independent city on November 16, 1907), much ofMoore's local government did not survive until later years when those functions were transferred to Tulsa proper or other nearby cities and towns within Oklahoma County's limits onceOklahoma City became an official federal City following World War II. When Oklahoma Territory was reorganized into Indian Territory following the war there were no villages or towns within its boundaries so most services such as schools and police officers came from Guthrie which also grew quickly due to soldiers stationed there during that time period
In 1881, when the United States acquired the area that would become Moore, Oklahoma, it did so through a series of treaties with the Kiowa and Comanche nations. The region was then known as Creek Nation Lands. The first settler in what is nowMoore was J.F.Haley in 1874. A year later, he built a log cabin on top of a hill near present day Moore City. The first store in town was opened by Wm. Fenton in 1876. In 1879, a post office was established at Moore City and remained operational until 1907. In 1907, the towns of Guthrie and Royal were founded adjacent to Moore City on land that had been given to them by the United States for military purposes only.
