Moore, Okla. is a small town in the county of Haskell located in southeast Oklahoma. The population was 2,584 at the 2000 census and 2,711 at the 2010 census. Moore is one of eight towns in Haskell County. Moore was founded by Luther Moore in 1907 as a farmstead on the west side of what is now downtown Moore. The first post office was established there on Jan. 17, 1909. In 1907-1910, four schools were opened: Muskogee School (grades 1-12), Harper School (grades K-8), Central High School (9-12), and White Hall Academy (13 to 18). A high school football team played its first game against Wartburg HS from Wichita Falls, Texas on Dec. 3, 1908. In 1911 when Haskell County was created from portions of Noble and Haskell counties, Moore became part of that new county and continued to serve as its townTechnical College until 1972 when it merged with Samford University for research purposes; however many residents still continue to call themselves "Mooreites" or "Mooreans." In 1937 when Oklahoma statehood finally happened, all 8 towns within Haskell County seceded from the state and formed their own independent republic called the Republic of Muskogee which lasted until 1959 when they merged back into Oklahoma again under the name Haskell County Republic

Moore was founded in 1907 as a small town in east Oklahoma. It became a center of the cotton industry, and during the early 20th century it had some of the biggest local mills in the country. The Moore economy changed after World War II, when oil production began to grow in the area. The mill went out of business in the 1970s, but its legacy continues to be felt today. Moore was founded in 1907 by J.D. Moore, a rancher and banker. The town was named for John Denton Moore, the founder of the nearby town of Vinton. Moore became a cattle station and then a small town, with around 100 residents in 1910. The population increased to over 1,000 by 1920. The area now known as Moore was first settled by Choctaws in the late 18th century and their descendants continue to live there today. A post office was established at Moore in 1907, and remained operational until it closed in 1951.
