The first post office in Moore was established on December 7, 1894. The present post office was built on November 15, 1907. In 1901, a railroad line was extended to Moore from McAlester. Moore has been home to several businesses and organizations which have had an impact on local culture and economy over the years including: Oklahoma Baptist College (now University of Central Oklahoma), Thunder Broadcasting Company, American Legion Post #1211 and United businesswomen's club #569-A. In recent years there have been efforts to revive downtown Moore including a $10 million dollar bond issue by Mayor Glenn Ritchie in 2013 which aimed to improve public transportation and pedestrian infrastructure as well as create new attractions such as an open-air museum called "Moores Aircraft Museum" and "Oklahoma State Fairgrounds", both located adjacent to courthouse square. A second bond issue was issued in 2016 with an aim to improve water infrastructure opportunities for downtown businesses as well as create more public art options within the city limits
