The town is located on the Arkansas River and is bordered to the north by the Canadian province of Alberta, to the east by Logan County and to the south by Stephens County. According to the 2010 census, Moore has a total area of , of which is land and (2%) is water. It lies in northeastern Oklahoma near Tulsa proper. Moore was established as a small log cabin community in 1907 by John A. Moore with help from his brother-in-law James Seddon Jr.. The first post office was opened in 1908 and continued operation until it closed in 1912 due to lack of mail delivery service from Tulsa. In addition to its namesake John A. Moore, other early settlers include Wm Henson (1911), Fenton Ladd (1912), Clifford Cramer (1914), Elisha Marden (1920), George Pritchard (1922), Royall Butte (1945) and Horace Ives (1959). During World War II, Glover Air Force Base was built adjacent to town on what later became called "the original homestead" site of current-day Glover Elementary School; this facility served as homeport for various military aircraft including Boeing B-29s and Navy carrier planes during World War II before being decommissioned in 1951 following American withdrawal from the war. Moore's economy changed significantly during Prohibition when bootlegging began operations which led to increased law enforcement activity around town as well as an increase number of arrests for liquor crimes throughout most of OKLAHOMA; this period also saw some significant development withintown such as development of new government buildings such as First Baptist Church brick building completed in 1927 while also starting construction on Steele High School which burned down two years later but reopened under new name after that school moved into its present location across Griffin Street from First Baptist Church; these developments helped spur growth withintown subsequent decades despite prohibition continuing until 1959 when it waned significantly due largely to federal intervention culminating with repeal of prohibition Nationwide via an amendment passed constitutional amendment known as The Scheduling Act which legalized alcoholic beverages nationwide effective January 1, 1933

Moore was founded in 1907 as a town in Caddo County, Oklahoma. The local water supplier, the Gadsden Indian Reservation, donated land for the town and it became a center of industry and commerce. The first post office was opened in 1909. Moore's population grew rapidly during World War I and Prohibition-era growth due to its location on the river between Kansas City, Missouri and Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1920, the Moore School District was created. On November 2 that year, Moore's first municipal election took place with James Kiefer becoming mayor. In 1930, the name of the town was changed from Moore to Tulsa after Tulsa Mayor George Wickersham made an application for statehood on behalf of Moore. During World War II, Tulsa experienced significant growth due to its status as a military airbase; however, during the war yearsMoore lost many businesses to out-of-state competition. The post-war economic boom slowed down following the end of hostilities in 1945 but beginning in 1949 Pryor oilmen started drilling for oil off of Tulsa's east coast which led to increased development around Tulsa's downtown area including new shopping malls and apartment complexes. The city’s population reached 1 million by 1960 but declined thereafter as various industrial plants closed or were mothballed throughout the late 1960s through early 1970s leading to a decline in real estate values along with job loss across all sectors of manufacturing until major restorations began later that decade across most parts of downtown including Arts District/Eagle Rock Park neighborhood which had been abandoned since World War II when much of it was used as open storage yards for factories before coming into use as residential neighborhoods thereafter
