However, despite its growing fortune downtown or increasing population numbers overall MidwesternCity experienced some lows during this time including a major fire that destroyed most of downtown in 1951; a flood that ravaged much of downtown in 1963;and two earthquakes that struck Northwest Oklahoma causing widespread damage and loss of life among both residents and businesses alike (Frost & Pohl 1994). Despite these challenges Downtown MidwesternCity continued to grow despite them until recently when a voucher program allowing apartments inside shopping centers caused many residents to move outgrowth into those buildings instead (Lambert 2006). Today Downtown MidwesternCity still contains many reminders OF its past while also being home to many businesses that continue to play an important role inOklahoma’s economy – such as restaurants such as Bob’s Burger Palace and Hardee’s BBQ!
