In 1907, he purchased the current building on 8th Street and Elmwood Avenue which served as his shop until 1922. In that year, he moved to 9th Street and Broadway where he operated his business until 1949. He then sold the business to J. H. Cline who operated it until 1982 when it was taken over by Johnnie Ladd at The Gun Shop of Midwest City LLC. Mr. Ladd retired from ownership in 2006 and passed away in 2007; however, the store continued to be run by his son, Johnnie Ladd II., until 2011 when it closed its doors due to lack of customers and resources. The Gun Shop of Midwest City LLC was founded by Johnnie Ladd II., Jr.. In 2006, he inherited the business from his father, Johnnie Ladd I., Sr.. In 1907, the OK State Legislature passed an act creating Haskell County; as a result, Midwest City became a county seat of Haskell County. In 1912, the first courthouse building opened; it served as both county courthouse and district court until 1978 when it was replaced by a new courthouse and jail complex that stands today on Main Street near downtown Indianapolis (the old courthouse's original location). In addition to its role as county seat, Midwest City also played an important role in local government with several schools serving children within its boundaries including Keystone High School which served students from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade from 1901 until 1989 when it merged into Woodward Middle School; Cherokee Elementary School which served students grades 1-6 from 1915 until 1922 when it merged into Indianola Junior/Senior High School; Westside Intermediate School which served students grades 8-12 from 1923 until 1957 when it merged into Woodward Intermediate School; and finally Roosevelt High school serving students grades 9-12 starting in 1959 which remains one of Central Oklahoma's premier high schools today.). The city has frequently hosted popular powwow contests such as those held every other year at Wichita Hills Racetrack during World Powwows weekend (a three day event) or during All-American Cowboy Days each year at Eastern pipe factory park where rodeo events are held throughout most of July & August
