The third bullet history event took place on December 5th, 1954 when shots rang out from across downtown Miami during what was known as “The Day After Christmas” holiday celebration. Seventeen people were killed and forty-three were injured before being subdued by police officers. This event is also considered to be one of the deadliest shootings incidents ever perpetrated within Miami limits although it did not involve gun violence between civilians and law enforcement officials like those aforementioned examples did

Miami, Oklahoma was a little town in western Oklahoma that at one time had a population of around 1,000 people. The small town was located on the now-defunct Miami Railroad and once served as a stop on the train line between McAlester,Oklahoma and Tulsa. The town post office was closed in 1951 and most likely demolished when the railroad tracks were pulled up. The history of Miami can be traced back to 1885 when John Pemberton founded what is now Miami, Oklahoma. At first Pemberton operated a grocery store and farm out of his home. In 1888, Pemberton married Jennie Clements and after moving to Miami began selling land for development. By 1912, Pemberton had developed over two hundred acres of land for sale in Miami Township. In 1930, Miami voters approved the creation of Creek County which included present-day Miami Township as well as portions of Muskogee County. On November 3rd, 1930, county commissioners decided to rename the small community Miami after Samuel J. "Sandy" Ryan who represented their district on the Tulsa City Commission from 1922 until his death in 1933. As part of Creek County government reorganization following World War II all local governments were merged into Tulsa City government effective May 6th 1945 with no change to citizens' rights or services provided by either type of government institution within the merger process other than name change/reorganization details generally mandated by state statute (euphemistically termed "Creek consolidated government"). On January 1st 1947 Tulsa's city charter changed naming requirements again resulting in Miami being reclassified as an unincorporated area within Tulsa proper rather than continue serving as its own locally owned entity separate from our Parent municipality under Article XVIII Section 2(a) & (b) thereof et al...
