In 1922, the United States Post Office moved to Mcalester from Jenks, Oklahoma after it was destroyed by a tornado that year. The population ofMcalesterstown grew steadily until World War II when it decreased due to the warring industries in the area. After the war ended, there were few new businesses opening up inMcalesterstown so it declined again until around 1970 when a new business called 'Dolphin' opened up and has been running ever since.
