At that time, this small town was home to a number of gunsmiths and pistolsmiths who enjoyed making and selling firearms. One of the first firearms to be manufactured in Mcalester was a two-gun shotgun made by noted pistolsmith John Stephenson. The shotgun became known as the Stephenson Gun and is still used by hunters today. In 1892, A.V. White founded the white marbled piano company in Mcalester and began manufacturing pianos with imported European arms parts. It wasn’t until 1923 that White switched his production from pianos to handguns, becoming one of the first companies in America to do so. During World War II, Mcalester hosted important munitions plant operations which required large numbers of rifles, shotguns and pistols being produced at various locations across town including the old armory building on Main Street where rifle testing occurred before rounds were actually fired off during combat missions overseas! Gunpowder manufacturing resumed in Mcalester after World War II when fuel improved thanks to advances in technology and interest in using new materials for artillery propellants (primarily cordite). Arms manufacturers once again returned during the 1970s with such names as Colt Magazines Manufacturing Company (later Smith & Wesson), Hi-Power Firearms Manufacturing Company (later Remington) and American Armory Corporation (now Glock). Today, there are over 100 manufacturers operating out of Mcalester with an average product inventory size exceeding 1 million items!

Mcalester is a town in Oklahoma, United States. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cherokee County. The first permanent settler in Mcalester was James Wicker who arrived in 1853. Wicker's store and post office were located on what is now State Highway 87. In 1860, the land that makes up the present-day town was donated by Governor John Smith to be named after him as part of an attempt to attract settlers to Oklahoma. Although many initial efforts failed, Mcalester grew slowly until it became a bustling community with over $1 million in economic development by 1910. The city hall and other municipal buildings were built between 1912 and 1914; this event marks the beginning of what would become known as downtown Mcalester. During World War II, Japanese Americans living in Tulsa were interned here under Operation Reinhardt which began on February 15th, 1942 and lasted six months until April 22nd when they were finally allowed back into their homes under US Army supervision. On October 3rd of that year, President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which ordered all residents of all concentration camps within two miles (3 km) of Washington D.C., including McAlesters detention center, to leave without giving any notice or opportunity for relocation or return. As a result of this order, many Japanese Americans may have been living in or around McAlesters during its earliest days although no records survive documenting their presence there specifically

However, because of the recession associated with the late 1990s and 2000s, Mcalester's population has decreased significantly since then.
