Mcalester is a town in McIntosh County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1904 by James B. Mcalester and his wife Nancy Hargrave Mcalester as a small community on the east side of Creek Fork to provide employment for farmers in the region. The name "Mcalester" first appeared on a map dated 1885. In 1907, James B. and Nancy's son John W. Mcalester donated land to establish a town square and named it after his father-in-law, Judge Arthur Ladd of Haskell City, Kansas. By 1912, the population had grown to 100 residents and by 1914 it had reached 350 residents In 1932, McClernand County was created from McIntosh County; however, no new towns were built within it until 1941 when McAlestersville was founded just inside McIntosh County line on what is now US Highway 287 (now I-40). This gave McAlestersville an edge over other towns because it lay within county limits rather than outside them like many other communities established during this time period. On October 6th 1957 at 12:01am local time (US Daylight Saving Time), McClernand county officials activated the daylight saving time flag switch so that allOklahoma counties would start Daylight Saving Time on October 7th 1957 at 11:59pm local time (US Standard Time). This change took place nationwide effective November 3rd 1957 statewide with the exception of Tulsa which continued to operate under our current UTC+08:00 system until 1971when they switched back to their own UTC standard

The first residents of the town were John Hutton (1870-1948), Wm Purdy (1871-1957), Charles A. “Chuck” Olson (bef 1892), Chrystal Ladd (bef 1898), Geo Easley (1893-1964), Ira Cramer (1900-1967) and Bernice Hodge (1901-.2005). The economy of Mcalester is based mainly on agriculture and ranching. In 1915, a sawmill was built to produce lumber for local homes and businesses. During World War II, Mcalester played a significant role as a manufacturing center for military supplies and equipment due to its location along Interstate 40. The mill closed down in the late 1940s but has been repurposed as a museum now open to the public every day from 9am to 5pm. In recent years, Mcalester has seen growth in its entertainment sector thanks to its location near I-40 and Wichita Falls Regional Airport
