It has been a long and proud history in the town of Mcalester, Oklahoma, of people using firearms to protect themselves and their families. The earliest references to firearms were in 1866 when two men named John Haney and George Wickersham built a Shotgun Firing Range on the banks of the Arkansas River. The first handgun was made in 1911 by J.M. Brownel & Sons Firearms Manufacturing Company in Wichita, Kansas. It had an 8-round magazine and cost $2.00 at the time. This was followed by the first rifle in 1912 by Prentice Sage Arms Company with a 5 round clip that could be carried around with you like awallet! In 1923, Sheriff A.J. “Dutch” Olson began patrolling the town with his horseback cowboy gun called The Texan which he purchased from Osmond Brothers Pistol Shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma for $7500 dollars! He used this weapon to kill 3 outlaws during his term as sheriff (1923-1925). In 1934, Mcalester became its own city after being annexed by Tulsa; it is now known as Tulsa metropolitan area. In that year, Mcalester established its own police department under Chief Clyde Caldwell which became one of the most powerful law enforcement agencies within Tulsa County at that time! In 1978, Tulsans approved legislation establishing concealed carry rights for citizens without permits! With this change came increased demand for firearm t-shirts and other advertising products celebrating these new rights throughout Tulsa County!
