The Gun Owners Association of OKLAHOMA (GOA) traces its roots to 1922, when the first Grand National Pistol Championship was held in Lawton. In 1949, the GOA sponsored the first state pistol championship in Oklahoma. Theeventwasheld at the local fairgrounds and featured ten national caliber firearms.In 1951, GOA became an independent organization and organized its own state championships for pistols and revolvers. From 1969-1994, GOA alsosponsoredthe annual NRA world championship competition for handguns. Lawton, Oklahoma is a small town in Humphreys County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1907 by settlers from Illinois and Wisconsin. The name of the first post office in Lawton was spelled "Lawn" until 1945 when it changed to "Lawne". In 1951, the name of the post office was changed again to "Lawton" after General Walton Lawton who commanded American forces during World War II. The town has been home to many famous people including: General Walton Lawton (1907-1945), Edmond Travolta (born Edward Anthony Travolta on February 24, 1938 in Queensborough City, New York), Forrest Gump (1991-1994), and Jay Leno (born January 14, 1967). In 2008, Lawton had an estimated population of 1,812. As of the 2010 census[1], there were 2,017 residents living in Lawton single-family homes/condos; 518 residents living in multi-unit dwellings; and 154 residents living as slaves or indentured servants.[2] In 2009,[3] these figures had decreased slightly to 1,799[4] and 152 residents living as slaves or indentured servants according to US Census Bureau data for 2000. There are no public schools located withinLawnton proper but students may attend Schools IN LAWTON Via satellite TV providers or online through various other forms such as My School OKLAHOMA which offers grades 9th - 12th grade courses from local high school teachers

Lawton, Oklahoma is a city in the Tulsa metropolitan area and the county seat of Stephens County. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Tulsa, bordered to the south by Tinker County and to the north by Osage County. The region that would become Lawton was first settled in 1881 when George Wickersham purchased 640 acres of land near present day Lawton from John Brougham. Wickersham named his new town after his friend Judge David Dixon (1820-1906), who had played an important role in helping organize Oklahoma Territory into a state. The town began growing quickly, becoming one of Tulsa's most prominent communities. In 1907, Lawton became part of Tulsa when it was annexed by the city. By 1920, Lawton had grown large enough that it started to require its own police department. This necessitated building a new Police Station at Seventh and Union Streets which opened in 1923. In 1902, J C Kinney organized a local lumber company and named it The Kinney Lumber Company Limited which continued until 1925 when it merged with several other companies to form The Wichita Lumber Company Limited which continues today as Wichita Lumber Corporation . By 1930, Lawton had reached its present size with over 730 residents and businesses including 12 banks and 8 grocery stores! In 1951, Stephens County was created from portions of Osage and Muskogee counties making Lawton its county seat. As population growth increased in Stephens County during this time period there were also plans for development around LAWTON including: A shopping mall called "The Mall" Which never materialized but did lead to the construction of some other businesses such as restaurants/bars/cafés etc.; A housing project called "The Towers"; And A golf course etc…. However none of these projects came to fruition due to economic reasons such as competition from other cities or counties within Tulsa metropolitan area or lack thereofin funding….. Nonetheless LAWTON continued to thrive thanks in part to its rich history and people!!!
