Lawton, Oklahoma is a city in the United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Washita County and the largest city in that county by area. Lawton was founded in 1881 as a small wagon town named after Major General George Armstrong Custer. The name came from "Logan," one of four towns that formed Washington County, Oklahoma Territory on September 16, 1880. The current incarnation of Lawton began to take form in the late 1800s when settlers arrived from eastern Kansas to settle what is now Washita County. One of these pioneers, John Bledsoe, built a log cabin on what is now State Route 66 near present-day Lawton in 1881. By 1890, there were over 100 people living in Lawton; it had become an agricultural community with some rudimentary infrastructure such as a courthouse and jail. However, business activity did not really pick up until after World War II due to demand for munitions produced by nearby Fort Hope Army Ammunition Plant (now Nike missile plant). In 1954, Washita County was created from parts of agencies including Grand Forks and Tulsa counties which had been organized following Oklahoma City's annexation into the new state of Oklahoma following its 1907 passage under Civil Rights laws establishing African Americans as citizens of Oklahoma regardless of their race at that time. The rapid expansion associated with post-war prosperity led to problems within law enforcement and governance which can be seen throughout much of Northwest Arkansas during this period; however, few cases reached public attention outside those closest to events or those who could provide witnesses or media coverage beyond limited Reach (Randy Woodruff). This situation changed abruptly when Timothy McVeigh bombed two federal buildings inawakening support for anti-government activism beginning around 9:00am on April 19th 1995 – moments before he detonated his explosives at OKC Federal Plaza killing 168 people and wounding more than 500 others; immediately surrounding communities went into lockdown mode as authorities responded with massive firepower including air strikes against suspect properties; such response indicates how quickly news spread about potential attacks across regional borders especially considering distances involved particularly given that many homes were destroyed or damaged during this attack alone (Wright Bryan Leach & Donnie Wooten). Many questions remain unanswered about this attack including motive(s) but one thing is for sure: law enforcement response within hours indicated intense manhunt/fearfuck executed successfully despite very large numbers requesting assistance which suggests high levels of preparedness both nationally and locally’ (Garrison Salisbury). As happened with most terrorist attacks throughout history where investigating agencies have difficulty prosecuting perpetrators due to lack evidence or witness cooperation cough up indictments weeks later nd often months later after case has been dropped numerous times due to statuteof limitations issues – here we have another example where significant damage was done but no arrests were made leading many locals to believe their government did not do enough’’ (Woodruff).Although Timothy McVeigh's motivations remain unknown many individuals within law enforcement felt like they could have prevented much worse if they only knew what he was planning

Lawton, Oklahoma is a small city in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is located on the Canadian border and has an estimated population of just over 10,000 residents as of 2010. The area that became Lawton was first settled by Europeans in the early 1800s, and it was named after Sir John Lawton, an Englishman who surveyed the area in 1827. The town began to grow rapidly after World War II, when a large military fort was built there for the American atomic bomb testing program. In 1951, Lawton became one of only two cities in Oklahoma City to be incorporated as a municipality. The city has since seen some growth again, with many new businesses opening up over the past few decades. The history of Lawton goes back even further than this though - it is home to one of America's earliest municipal governments. On July 1, 1907, Lawton passed its first Municipal Charter which gave citizens control over their own government within their own borders. Over time, other members of the "Lawtons" have assumed leadership roles in law enforcement and public service within the municipality - including Mayor Leroy Jethro Hulbert and current Mayor Ron Nessenbaugh - making them one of its most dominant factions today. Today, Lawton remains an important community both nationally and internationally due to its location on Canada's east-west border; its strong community spirit; and its wide range of economic opportunities. Its infrastructure has been particularly well-suited to recent growth: There are now several high-rise buildings in town – including two downtown skyscrapers – as well as comprehensive transportation options available throughout both Mexico City and Tulsa proper (including bus rapid transit). In addition to its major cultural attractions such as theatres and music venues (both locally owned and operated), Lawton is also home to a number of smaller businesses that contribute significantly to local economies diversifying access to goods and services across different neighbourhoods within town centre – from small hair salon operations down to full-service grocery stores!
Lawton was founded in 1892 by Capt. John Lawton, a member of the Oklahoma Territorial Legislature and aermancipal of the town. The first store opened on Main Street in 1892. A post office was established at Lawton in 1893. The town quickly became an important cultural and commercial center in Indian Territory. In 1907, the townsite of Lawton and Russell were consolidated to form the new city of Lawton.
