On April 14, 1912, Lawton citizens voted to incorporate as a town after voting on February 24th for an ordinance to that effect; this vote followed an earlier referendum which had passed largely because of publicity given to Attorney General James Pendergast's effort to promoteOklahoma admission into the United States Federal Reserve System (). At its incorporation meeting on April 21st (), Lawton had a population of 439 residents (). On November 15th 1911 (the date before statehood), Business Men's Club Incorporated got its charter from State Legislature #2nd Session charter number 1092 (). In 1935 (just prior to World War II), local farmers raised money for munitions during world war II by selling produce door-to-door throughout central Noble County ().
